pinkalgae...grrr...
The issue with the pool...constantly cloudy with bits floating around...even after balencing the chemicals and changing the sand in the filter and adding more chemicals...the problem: pink algae growing in the pipes--too much of it growing there...
1) we've had this issue before, and it is a constant battle for anyone with a soft swim pool...but can be managed if not allowed to grow out of control...BUT, because of the rain (before we opened the pool) and the amount we had raising the water level...allowing water to get into the pipes...where it is dark and moist and optimal for algae growth...
2) they no longer make the pool tablet needed in a soft swim pool system to "kill" this algae...something about it not being enviromentally friendly...
3) pool design--the plumbing was not easily adaptable to a "closed" loop system we needed to have in order to blast the pipes with chlorine...chlorine + soft swim chemicals=cottage cheese reaction...
Michael spent about 2 hours back and forth between the pool store and HomeDepot trying to come up with a contraption to make the "closed" loop work in this pool...this did not make him happy...then we spent another 2 trying to get it to work...the plugs kept shooting out, the hose wouldn't stay connected...frustrating...
Took a break for dinner...Ted&Stacy came over...finally came up with something that worked and blasted the pipes...hopefully no more algae...
Done at 9:30 pm...
Now we know for next time...
...and...yes the girls still swam in it...questionable if it is safe or not...
